What coaching is and is not
Coaching is a collaborative, solution focused, results-oriented and systematic process in which the coach facilitates personal and professional growth of the coachee.
The coach will engage in direct, personal and often challenging conversations. The coachee understands that successful coaching requires an active collaborative approach between the coachee and the coach.
The coach plays the role of a facilitator of change while it is the coachee’s responsibility to enact change. The coachee is responsible for creating and implementing his/her own physical, mental and emotional well-being, decisions, choices, actions and results. As such, the coachee agrees that the coach is not and will not be liable for any actions or inaction, or for any direct or indirect result of any services provided by the coach.
Coaching is not therapy and, thus, does not aim to treat psychological problems. The coachee agrees to disclose details of past or present psychological or psychiatric treatment. If such issues become salient during the coaching session, the coach may recommend referral to an appropriate and qualified specialist.
All information about the coach / coachee relationship and any written notes remain completely confidential, except in rare circumstances decreed by law.
According to the ethics of our profession, topics may be anonymously and hypothetically shared with other coaching professionals for training, supervision, mentoring, evaluation, further coach professional development and/or consultation purposes.
