Your Capacity
for Diverse Others

Increase Your Capacity to Work With Diverse Others

We often hear how diversity in thinking drives innovation and creative adaptation to challenges. At the same time, we have to admit that differences in others' opinions, values, goals, approaches and behaviours also contribute to us feeling overwhelmed, stressed and disappointed with a lack of progress, reducing our ability to achieve. Most people seek agreement and try to avoid conflict, not realising that the very discomfort born out of tensions gives rise to creativity and new ways of being and doing.

What's Important?
To successfully harness tensions in diverse teams, you need:
  • Self-, other- and wider system awareness
  • Ability to recognise the tensions
  • Courage, curiosity and a positive process to lean into and explore them together.

Group (or Team) Coaching provides a reflective space for you to share your challenges, to notice how your own frame of mind, implicit assumptions and patterns of behaviour impact how you see others and how others might be experiencing you.

It enables you to develop the capacity to notice in action how your group interacts and what those interactions make possible and what becomes impossible. Group coaching also presents an opportunity to practice co-creating new and better ways of working for the group, as well as to co-design experiments to try in your workplace.

It gives you and your peers a chance to take risks and learn safely and fast from your own and others’ insights.

Program Outcomes
You and your peers will achieve greater collective results and fulfilment at work by increasing your ability to:

  • Surface your own and others’ assumptions, fears and aspirations
  • Lean into the tensions born out of goal misalignment
  • Avoid reactivity and hold multiple perspectives
  • Include and extend individual goals to a shared group purpose
  • Reach a shared understanding
  • See how your own mental models shape your reality, affect what you notice and what you ignore
  • Learn how to be more present and enquire to really understand the meaning of what is being said.

What is it like?

Our role is to create an environment that:
  • Matches the complexity of your work rather than shields you in a bubble.
  • Is psychologically safe for you to bring up what might be considered "undiscussables" in your workplace.
  • Requests confidentiality from all group members to allow an honest exploration of issues.
  • Prompts you to notice your own beliefs, assumptions and perspectives, and how they shape how you relate to others.
  • Encourages you to experiment and take risks to create evidence of your increasing capacity to engage in challenging scenarios and grow from it.

We will:
  • Support you!
  • Ask you and the group questions you do not ask yourself/yourselves.
  • When appropriate, share models and frameworks from positive psychology, psychology of peak performance, adult learning and development, systems thinking etc.
